College Magazine Contents Page Analysis

Contents page

The pictures and photos on the contents page take up most of the page, this makes it easier for the audience to pick out the key information they're looking for which helps to sell the magazine because the audience aren't put of when they're faced the task of finding the information they need in a big block of text. This contents pages follows the typical features of a contents page and has page numbers and headings of the different topics in the magazine making them easier to find, this also makes the magazine easier to navigate and more professional and appealing to the audience.
The contents page follows the usual convention of using three main colours; Blue, green and white, these colours are bright an eye catching and gives a professional look to the contents page making it more appealing and attractive to the audience. The background of the contents page is white, which is very simple but makes the text stand out, which again, makes it more eye catching to the audience.
This particular contents page is quite good but doesn't contain some of the common codes and conventions, such as; the name of the magazine above the contents, a letter written by the editor and an image of the front cover of the magazine.

College Magazine Front Cover Analysis

Masthead
The masthead of this magazine is called 'College' this is because it is a magazine about college; this is to help people instantly recognise what the magazine is about. Some of the masthead is hidden behind the main image, this is to show the audience that the magazine is well known and confident in what it has to offer which would put some confidence into the audience when debating whether or not to buy the magazine. The masthead its self is the brightest and bigger piece of text on the front cover which attracts the audience and helps them know that this is the name of the magazine. The masthead also fits in with the rest of the colour scheme to make it look a lot more professional. Above the masthead there is a strapline and a skyline which gives the audience a small hint as to what the articles in the magazine are going to be about. There is also some anchorage text under the masthead of articles that relate to college to give the audience an idea of what is inside the magazine

Main image
The main image is a medium shot and almost fills the page; it is of a young adult who looks like the stereotypical college student with his books and trendy clothes. This image helps to show the audience that college life is good and the student on the front cover is enjoying it. Due to the way he is positioned, it gives a relaxed and welcoming look to the magazine and helps to attract the audience with the direct address of him looking directly at you. They have also used this image to catch the audience’s attention and give them an idea of what the magazine is about and what is inside.
Sell lines
The sell lines of this magazine are aimed at college students, they mention the phone company 'Blackberry' and ways to make money while in college, these are things college students would be interested in and would draw them in and make them want to read the magazine. Some sell lines use direct address 'Why we love Blackberry' the word 'we' involves the audience. The sell lines follow the colour scheme of the magazine which helps them fit in with the rest of the magazine and makes it look more professional and more appealing to the audience.
                                                                      Colour Scheme
The front cover uses three main colours; yellow, black and white. This is a common convention of well known magazines so by copying this trend of three main colours it helps to keep it simple, professional and more appealing to the target audience. The pieces of information that may be more important are in a brighter colour and bigger font to attract the audience to the different stories inside the magazine.
